Drainage Pipe

Drainage pipes are ideally used to take excess water away from an area to prevent water logging. Draincoil® corrugated drainage pipe is of a consistent high-quality and is available slotted or unslotted, with or without a geotextile filter sock.

Drainage water enters Draincoil® through the uniform slot patterns in the protected valleys of the corrugations. An even entry of water along the pipe length provides efficient and effective drainage.

Made from recycled plastic

Available in 65mm unsocked & socked and 100mm unsocked & socked

Uses of Drainage Pipes in Landscaping

Redirecting Excess Water

  • Drainage pipes are primarily used to redirect excess water from areas where it may accumulate, such as lawns, gardens, or driveways, to other parts of the property or into municipal stormwater systems. They help prevent waterlogging, which can damage plants and lawn areas.
  1. Yard Drainage: Drainage pipes are installed underground to collect and transport water from low spots in the yard to prevent pooling and flooding.
  2. Driveway Drainage: A pipe placed under the driveway can direct water away from the surface to prevent erosion and damage.

French Drains

  • A French drain is a common drainage system in landscaping, and drainage pipes are an essential component of it. The pipes are buried in gravel or rock trenches to collect and redirect groundwater or surface water away from problem areas. Example:
  1. Basement Waterproofing: French drains with drainage pipes can be used around the foundation of a house to collect water and direct it away, preventing basement flooding or moisture buildup.
  2. Landscape Beds: Installing a French drain with drainage pipes in garden beds helps keep plants healthy by preventing excessive water retention in the soil.

Preventing Erosion

  • Water runoff can lead to soil erosion, particularly in areas with slopes or heavy rainfall. Drainage pipes help to control and direct water flow away from areas where it might cause erosion, helping to stabilize the landscape. Example:
  1. Sloped Areas: Drainage pipes are used on hillsides or sloped yards to manage water runoff and prevent soil erosion.
  2. Retaining Walls: When constructing retaining walls, drainage pipes are often placed behind them to prevent water pressure from building up, which could lead to wall failure.

Landscape Irrigation

  • Drainage pipes are sometimes used in irrigation systems to ensure that excess water from the irrigation process drains away properly and doesn’t lead to waterlogging in plant beds. Example:
  1. Proper Irrigation Management: Drainage pipes can help distribute water evenly in areas that receive heavy irrigation, directing excess water away to avoid creating soggy spots that could damage plant roots.

Landscape Drainage Trenches

  • Sometimes, simple drainage trenches with pipes are dug in areas where water accumulates in order to direct the water to a lower-lying area or away from the property. This type of drainage system is useful for large areas or areas that are prone to poor drainage. Example:
  1. Garden Beds: Drainage trenches with pipes can be placed in garden beds to carry excess rainwater away, ensuring that the soil remains at an optimal moisture level.
